From Latin historia < Ancient Greek ἱστορία (historia), “‘learning through research, narration of what is learned’”) < ἱστορέω (historeō), “‘to learn through research, to inquire’”) < ἵστωρ (histōr), “‘the one who knows, the expert, the judge’”), from * (“‘ϝίδτωρ’”), from Proto-Indo-European *wid- (“‘know, knowledge’”).
